ESRI Fire Mapper - 04/19/2011 Texas
A fire mapping service hosted by ESRI links satellite-based mapping of active fires to recently posted tweets, YouTube videos, and flickr photos. The current update (for late April, 2011) focuses on wildfire activity from central Texas west toward New Mexico and Mexico. This interactive mapper can be zoomed out to scan for other fire activity based on MODIS satellite data and other sources.

About Ron SteffensRon Steffens is a professor of communications at Green Mountain College, where he teaches media publishing and environmental communications. He began his work in fire management as a lookout on the Arizona border. These days he's based out of Grand Teton National Park, where he supports Teton Interagency Fire as a fire monitor, incident commander, and fire analyst.
